📘 How to Play Number Snake

Number Snake is the counting version of classic snake. Numbers are scattered across the board and the one you need next glows yellow; steer the snake to it. Touching a wrong number does not end the game — it just flashes a warning and shortens the snake by one ring. Walls do not kill either: the snake leaves one edge and reappears on the other.

1. Choose a range: 1-5 for beginners, 1-10 for preschool, 1-20 for children who already know their numbers.
2. The box at the top left says “Next” and tells you which number to find; that number grows and turns yellow on the board.
3. Steer the snake onto the right number with the arrow keys, or by swiping / using the pad below the board on a phone.
4. Eating the correct number scores 10 points and moves the target to the next number.
5. Touching a wrong number flashes the box red and shortens the snake by one ring; play continues.
6. Keep finding the next number until you reach the last one to finish the round.

🎯 What to expect at this age

Children aged 4-5 practise recognising digits and the idea of “next” in the 1-5 range; taking a few seconds to spot the number is normal. Ages 6-7 play the 1-10 range fluently. For 8-9 year olds the real challenge is not finding the numbers but planning a path around a growing tail.

🏠 At home and in class

A quiet way to rehearse number order: because wrong answers are not punished, children are not afraid to try. Asking the child to say the next number out loud reinforces the number names. In class the 1-20 range works as a warm-up before showing a number line.

💡 Tips

• Find where the next number is first, then steer — rushing runs you into your own tail.
• Walls do not kill, so the short route is sometimes straight off the edge of the screen.
• The longer the snake, the more your own tail is the obstacle; take wide turns.
