📘 How to Play Obstacle Snake

Obstacle Snake is classic snake pushed towards a puzzle. Purple stone blocks sit on the board and the snake has to weave between them to reach the apples. The edges of the screen do not kill — the snake leaves one side and returns on the other. Only the stones and your own tail are dangerous, which makes the game about planning a route rather than reflexes.

1. Choose how crowded the board is: Few walls for a first try, Medium once you are used to it, Many walls for hunting routes through narrow corridors.
2. Steer the snake with the arrow keys, or by swiping / using the pad on a phone.
3. Eating the red apple scores 10 points and adds a ring; a new apple appears on a free square away from the stones.
4. Hitting a purple stone or your own tail ends the round.
5. Do not stop at the edge of the screen — you come out the other side, and that is often the shortest route.

🎯 What to expect at this age

Children aged 6-8 first head straight for the apple and run into the stones; within a few rounds they build the idea of going around. Ages 9-12 see a clear jump in score once they discover the wrap-around shortcut. In Few walls mode a round lasts 30-60 seconds; in Many walls mode the board becomes a puzzle and rounds get shorter.

🏠 At home and in class

Spotting the apple and working out the shortest way to it asks the child to think ahead — a moving version of the maze worksheets they do on paper. Asking “which way will you go now?” makes them put the plan into words. In class, Many walls mode works as a short problem-solving break.

💡 Tips

• The shortest way to the apple is rarely a straight line; look for the open corridor first.
• Going off the edge is free — leave on the right, come back on the left and skip a whole cluster of stones.
• As the snake grows your own body becomes a new obstacle; think about the exit before entering a narrow corridor.
