📘 How to Play Roll & Race

Roll & Race is the classic dice-and-path board game — the family that includes "Candy Land" and "Snakes and Ladders". But there isn't just ONE board here: 5 DIFFERENT boards unlock one after another, and each has its own length, difficulty and box mix.

  1. Pick a mode (Solo / 2 Players) and one of the unlocked boards from the buttons above.
  2. Tap "🎲 Roll Dice"; move forward by the number shown (1-6).
  3. Landing on a special box triggers ONE effect right away — ⏩ forward boost, ⏪ backward slide, ⏸️ wait a turn, 🎁 surprise reward or ❓ mini question.
  4. In Solo mode, finishing the board (🏁) records your roll count and permanently unlocks the NEXT board.
  5. In 2-Player mode, 🔵 and 🟠 take turns on the same board; whoever finishes first wins the round.

👶 What to expect at ages 5-9

For a 5-year-old, the core skill here is simple: count the dots on the dice, move the right number of cells, wait your turn, and not give up when "it didn't work out this time." Short Path is the ideal starting board — boxes come often enough that a surprise is always near. Kids around 7-9 enjoy the big leaps on Snakes & Ladders and the thrill of finding the hidden jump point on Shortcut Adventure; chasing their best roll-count record keeps them coming back.

🏠 At home and in class

2-player mode brings the classic tabletop experience to a single shared screen, taking turns — perfect for siblings or a child-adult pair. Thinking out loud together during mini questions ("Which one is red?" or "How many stars are there?") turns the game into a much richer learning moment than rolling dice alone. The fact that a wrong answer carries NO penalty means a child never has to be afraid to try.

💡 Tips

  • Each board's box mix is different: Long Path rewards patience, while Snakes & Ladders can throw you back a long way.
  • A box's effect is applied only ONCE — even if the cell you land on afterward is also special, it won't chain, which is why the game always finishes in a reasonable time.
  • Missing a mini question costs you nothing; you only miss out on a bonus move forward.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What age is Roll & Race suitable for?

The game is designed for ages 5-9: a 5-year-old learns to roll the dice and count while moving, and older kids can chase the different boards' challenge and their best roll-count record.

How many boards are there, and are they all the same?

There are 5 boards and none of them are the same: Short Path is short but packed with boxes, Long Path is long with sparse boxes, Shortcut Adventure hides a jump point, Snakes & Ladders has big forward/backward leaps, and Space Path reskins the same mechanics with themed icons (wormhole, black hole, asteroid). Boards unlock one after another.

What do the special boxes do?

It depends on the box: ⏩ a forward boost jumps you ahead a few cells, ⏪ a backward slide pulls you back a few cells, ⏸️ wait a turn makes you skip your next roll, 🎁 a surprise reward just gives points, and ❓ a mini question gives a bonus move forward if answered correctly.

What happens if I answer the mini question wrong?

You lose nothing. The mini question is only a bonus chance to move forward — a correct answer earns +2 cells, a wrong answer carries no penalty, and you just keep rolling on your next turn.

How does the 2-player mode work?

Switching to "2 Players" lets two players (🔵 and 🟠) take turns rolling on the same board; if one lands on "wait a turn", only that player's next turn is skipped. Whoever finishes the board first wins.

Is Roll & Race free? Do I need to download or sign up?

The game is completely free, has no ads, and runs directly in your browser — no download, sign-up or payment needed.
