You drive the green snake, the computer drives the orange one, and you are both after the same apple. The bot does not cheat: it moves at your speed, obeys the same rules and does not know where the apple is before you do — it sees it on screen, exactly as you do. The difference is how far ahead it thinks.
- Choose a difficulty. On Easy the bot often turns at random and walls kill nobody; play your first game here.
- Steer with the arrow keys, W A S D or the pad below the board; on a phone you can also swipe.
- Whoever reaches the red apple first grows a ring and scores 10 points.
- You lose if you hit your own tail, the bot's body, or (on Medium and Hard) a wall.
- A longer bot is not faster but it is clumsier — it opens gaps on wide turns, watch for them.
🎯 What to expect at this age
Children aged 7-8 chase the apple and ignore the bot at first; Easy mode does not punish that. Around 9-10 they learn to treat the bot's body as a wall. At 11-12, Hard mode is a genuine opponent: at that level the bot works out dead ends in advance and tries to cut across the direction you are heading.
🏠 At home and in class
One of the first real strategy games a child can play alone: losing here is a decision, not luck. Asking "why did the bot go there?" builds the habit of reading an opponent's intent. With two children pick Snake Duel; with one, pick this.
💡 Tips
- The bot takes the shortest route; if you are closer to the apple, do not rush — block its path instead.
- A long bot is clumsy, not strong — use your own tail as a wall to corner it.
- On Easy walls do not kill, so you can leave one edge and reappear on the other to surprise it.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Does the computer cheat?
No. The bot moves on the same tick as you, obeys the same collision rules and decides using only what is on screen: the bodies, the apple and the direction you are facing. It does not know your next move.
What is the difference between the three levels?
The Easy bot turns at random often and does not check for dead ends. The Medium bot follows the shortest route and avoids trapping itself. The Hard bot also targets squares along the direction you are heading, to cut you off.
Do I die when I hit a wall?
Not on Easy — the snakes leave one edge and return on the other. On Medium and Hard walls do kill.
What age is it for?
Ages 7-12. Easy mode plays comfortably at 7-8; Hard mode is a real challenge for 11-12.
Is the game free?
It is completely free. No sign-up, registration or download is needed and there are no ads.
