Build a House is a free, creative building game. A shelf below holds pieces sorted into categories (foundation, wall, roof, window, door, chimney, decoration); you drag one onto the construction area above and it settles into the nearest grid cell. There is no single correct layout — place any piece in any cell, and pick it back up any time.
- The shelf below holds foundation, wall, roof, window, door, chimney and decoration pieces, sorted into categories.
- Drag the piece you picked onto the construction area above; it settles into the nearest grid cell with a soft "pat" sound.
- Tap a placed piece to pick it up, move it elsewhere, or tap "Clear" to start over from scratch.
- Placing 10 pieces triggers a brief sparkle and a "Great house!" celebration — then you keep building for as long as you like.
🧱 Real construction pieces
Walls, roof slopes/ridges/tiles, five different windows and two doors are drawn with real pixel-art sprites; a flower bed and a fence were custom-made as two extra decoration pieces just for this game.
🔁 Why is there no losing?
There is no "right" or "wrong" way to build. The 10-piece celebration is a small encouraging note, not a goal — reaching it is never required, and you can play with as few or as many pieces as you like.
👶 What to expect at age 3-8
For the youngest players, the skill is simple drag-and-drop and cause and effect: "if I place this piece here, something happens." Older kids start telling categories apart (is this a wall or a roof?) and building the house they picture in their head.
🏠 Use at home
- With no time limit, a short break and a long session both work equally well.
- An adult can support planning and categorizing by asking "where should we put this piece?"
- The "Clear" button lets each session build a completely different house, so replay value is high.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What age is Build a House for?
It suits ages 3 and up; it needs no reading and is played by dragging pieces. Older kids enjoy telling categories apart and building the house they picture in their head.
Is there a right or wrong way to build?
No. There is no single correct layout; any piece can go in any cell, with no penalty or "wrong" state at all.
Is the 10-piece celebration a goal I must reach?
No, it's just a small encouraging moment. You never have to reach 10 pieces; when you do, a sparkle and celebration message appear, and you keep playing.
Can I remove a piece I already placed?
Yes, tap a placed piece to pick it up, move it elsewhere, or tap "Clear" to reset the whole area.
Is Build a House free, does it need a download?
The game is completely free, ad-free, and runs directly in the browser; no download, sign-up, or payment is needed.
