📘 How to Play Snake Puzzle

There is one big difference between this and every other snake game: the snake does not move on its own. Press a direction key and it advances exactly one square. There is no time pressure — a child can study the board for as long as they like. That turns snake from a reflex game into a puzzle.

  1. Choose a difficulty: Easy gives few apples and few walls, Medium is balanced, Hard gives a board of narrow corridors.
  2. Each press of a direction key moves the snake one square. There is no need to hurry.
  3. Collect every apple on the board; when they are gone the level is complete and the next one begins.
  4. Each apple adds a ring — the board keeps shrinking, so the order you take them in matters.
  5. Hitting a wall or your own tail restarts the same level; you never get a random new one.
  6. ↩️ Undo takes back your last move. Do not be afraid to experiment — that button is the heart of the game.

🎯 What to expect at this age

Children aged 6-8 head for the nearest apple and box themselves in with their tail; Undo lets them discover that without being punished. Around 9-10 they start asking "which apple should I leave for last" — the first step of real planning. At 11-12, Hard mode lets them read the whole board and set the order in advance.

🏠 At home and in class

A moving version of the maze worksheets they do on paper, with one difference: here every move changes the board (the snake grows), so thinking ahead is mandatory. Asking "where will you go now, and what happens next?" puts the plan into words. Repeating the same level is deliberate: that is where the learning is.

💡 Tips

  • The order you collect apples in is everything; the nearest one is often the worst choice.
  • Your growing tail becomes a new wall — think about the exit before entering a narrow corridor.
  • When you are stuck, press Undo; going back one move beats restarting the level.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't the snake move on its own?

Because this is a puzzle, not a reflex game. Every key press moves it exactly one square, so a child can think without rushing.

How far back does Undo go?

Up to the last 40 moves. Pressing it repeatedly is fine — it walks back to the start and stops there.

Do I get a new level when I lose?

No, the same level restarts. In a puzzle game the learning comes from trying the same board again.

Are the levels always solvable?

Yes. Every level is played through by a solver as it is generated; a board that cannot be solved is never shown.

Is the game free?

It is completely free. No sign-up, registration or download is needed and there are no ads.
