Are the hint dots in order?
No. The dots never say which peg is right, only how many are in the right place and how many in the wrong place. That is what makes it a puzzle.
Can a colour appear twice?
Yes, at every level. Each slot of the secret code is chosen independently, so a colour can appear two or even three times. Later levels use 5 slots instead of 4.
What is a good first guess?
Two colours in pairs (for example red red blue blue): the first hint quickly tells which colours are in the code.
What is this game called?
The classic code-breaking game known as "Mastermind"; colours and tries are tuned for children.
What if I fail in 8 tries?
The code is revealed and a new one is set; points are only given for solving, there is no penalty.
